On 16th January 2011 the tenth KM Vertical Gandía will take place, organised by the Club Alpi Gandía. The route will be slightly different from previous years but will basically start in the riverbed at Beniopa and end at the summit of Mt. Mondúver. Last year’s entrance fee was €12.00.
The competition is open to adults over the age of 18 and to accompanied minors, and the only criterion is that participants should be physically fit enough to take part. Split into two categories (runners and walkers), the distance last year was 11.4kms for the runners and 14.75kms for the walkers. The walkers started the competition at 9.00am and the runners at 10.30am, both from the same point in Beniopa, and refreshments were available at two pre-arranged points along the route as well as in La Drova. Competitors must descend by foot from the finish point at the summit for the final refreshments in La Drova, however. All participants who completed the course were able download a personalised certificate, and although walkers are not considered to be a competitive category they were given a record of their time for the course. Runners were given final competition results according to their entrance category.
It is anticipated that the 2011 competition will be organised and run along very similar lines to previous years, albeit with slight changes to the previous route. The website of the Club Alpi Gandía will shortly be updated with more details for anyone interested.
